Episode 15 recap: Xue Ye caused trouble during Yan Lin's crowning ceremony.
The emperor summoned Xie Wei to the palace and delivered some good news. Zhang Zhe had successfully dismantled several hideouts of the rebels through his investigation. Yan Mu requested Xie Wei to help Yan Lin with the crowning, as it is usually done by elders. Xie Wei hesitated, unsure whether to agree or not.
Upon seeing Xue Ye strike Jiang Xue Ning, Yan Lin suddenly jumped up and kicked him to the ground. The emperor called Xie Wei into the palace and informed him of the good news about Zhang Zhe's progress in dealing with the rebels. Xie Wei glanced at Zhang Zhe beside him and congratulated him, praising his efficiency in handling the case, surpassing the Xingwu Guard. When the emperor mentioned the Xingwu Guard, he asked Zhang Zhe if any evidence had been found regarding Yan Mu's rebellion. Zhang Zhe honestly replied that based on the current semi-sealed letter, there was still no conclusive proof. To investigate the matter thoroughly, they would need to go to the military camp in Tongzhou.
Xie Wei discovered that Jiang Xue Ning loved snacks, so he personally made cloud-shaped cakes for her. When Jiang Xue Ning took them back to eat, she happened to be spotted by the gluttonous Bao Ying. Jiang Xue Ning only asked her to have a taste, but Bao Ying found the cloud-shaped cakes so delicious that she ended up taking all the remaining ones.
As Jiang Xue Ning left her room, she coincidentally encountered Xie Wei, who had come to teach a class. Bao Ying offered him a piece to taste, but unexpectedly, Xie Wei took them all. Jiang Xue Ning noticed that Xie Wei's attitude towards her suddenly became cold during the class. She couldn't understand what she had done to upset him. Xie Wei returned from the Yan residence, and Jiang Xue Ning took the initiative to explain to him. Xie Wei gave her the invitation letter from Yan Lin and left the decision of whether to go or not to her. In preparation for Yan Lin's crowning ceremony, Jiang Xue Ning had already reserved a sword, so she was determined to attend regardless. The princess also wanted to accompany Jiang Xue Ning, but she was worried that the Empress Dowager would not allow it. Jiang Xue Ning came up with an idea and suggested that the princess persuade Xue Shu to go together. Jiang Xue Ning's guess turned out to be correct, as the Empress Dowager agreed when Xue Shu made the request.
Jiang Xue Ning went to the blacksmith's shop to pick up the treasure sword. The blacksmith advised her to get a scabbard for the sword, as it would be inauspicious to give it as a gift without one. Thinking of what Yan Lin had said in her past life, that a true good sword didn't need a scabbard, she told the blacksmith that it was meant to be a lethal weapon to be given to Yan Lin.
On the day of Yan Lin's crowning ceremony, Xie Wei arrived early at the Yan residence. He saw Yan Mu paying respects to the ancestors in the ancestral hall and, at Yan Mu's invitation, Xie Wei also took three incense sticks and paid his respects. While he was doing so, Yan Mu said to the spirit tablet of his eldest sister that the fledgling swallow had returned. When Yan Mu mentioned the three hundred children who had been killed, Xie Wei couldn't hold back his tears and knelt in front of his mother's spirit tablet, sobbing.
Jiang Xue Ning arrived at the Yan residence with the princess, holding the gift. Yan Lin was delighted to see Jiang Xue Ning. During the meal, Xue Ye suddenly arrived and asked Jiang Xue Ning to say a congratulatory message to Yan Lin. With Xue Ye and others present, Jiang Xue Ning hesitated and didn't know what to say. Yan Lin spoke up first and came to her aid. After receiving the gift from Jiang Xue Ning, Xue Ye took the opportunity to bring up a new topic. The emperor had issued an order that the Yan residence was not allowed to privately possess any weapons. Jiang Xue Ning stood up and argued for Yan Lin's rights, but Xue Ye suddenly slapped her. Yan Lin saw Xue Ye dare to hit Jiang Xue Ning and immediately kicked him to the ground, and a fight broke out between them.
Xue Ye was no match for Xie Wei, so he ordered the Xingwu Guard to attack Xie Wei. Seeing the situation becoming increasingly chaotic, Jiang Xue Ning realized that continuing the fight would be detrimental to the Yan residence and quickly stepped forward to stop Yan Lin. However, Xue Ye persisted. Yan Lin then proposed a one-on-one fight with Xue Ye. Seeing that Xue Ye was afraid, the princess deliberately mocked the Xue family for not having decent men. However, Yan Lin corrected the princess and praised Xue Dingfei from the Xue family as a true man. He also took the opportunity to dismiss the notion that Xue Ye was a legitimate heir. Angered and humiliated, Xue Ye was about to launch another attack when Xie Wei arrived, having received the news. He angrily reprimanded Yan Lin and Xue Ye, finally stabilizing the situation.
